DASHING THROUGH THE STROLL
When the holiday season rolls around, strolling through historic decorated Christmas villages makes me feel like I’m in a Hallmark movie. Maybe it’s the crisp breezy air with a hot chocolate in one hand enjoying the beautiful scenery. It all leaves me feeling the need to slow down, embrace the moment and soak in that holiday spirit. Here in Texas, our holiday season is the perfect opportunity to wear knit dresses and comfy ankle boots for endeavoring in festive outdoor activities.
A visit to the Dallas Arboretum is one of those places that brings together nature, stunning surroundings and sweet seasonal magic. During the holidays, the botanical garden gets an extra touch of charm with its Christmas Village, cheerful displays and the immaculate decorated DeGolyer Mansion.

A Charming Christmas Village
I really like seeing how different places decorate for Christmas. I’m not just inspired by the enchanting decor but it gives me insight to what the holidays mean to others. The decoration is just another way to celebrate and share the joy of Christmas. The Winter Wonderland Christmas Village at the Dallas Arboretum adds those cozy small-town details.

I always feel like I just wandered not only into another country but a different time period. The smell of kettle corn, hot cocoa and cinnamon fill the air as you make your way to the perfect spot for pictures. Take a photo under the giant lit trees loaded with dozens of ornaments in the garden. You’ll find Santa’s sleigh waiting to give you a ride and several adorable Christmas shops.

Christmas Inside the DeGolyer Mansion
Another lovely part of the Christmas experience is the aesthetically decorated DeGolyer House. The charming 86-year-old estate is transformed into glamourous and elegant Christmas decor. Walking through feels like you’re visiting a rich relative’s cozy, warm historic mansion.

From the beautifully decorated fireplace to the numerous colorful trees paired with seasonal details, it’s a reminder of how much personality and warmth holiday decorating can bring into a space.

I especially enjoyed taking in the different decorations and capturing my own pictures. I seriously wanted to sit down on one of the comfy couches with a cup of apple cider, a warm slice of cranberry orange cake and watch Home Alone for the 1,000th time.

The Beauty of Being Outdoors
While it’s nice to rest my eyes upon the delicate Christmas lights and enchanting displays, there’s something about strolling through the garden that makes it just as satisfying. I feel a certain freedom outdoors. Embracing the upscale landscapes, unique flowers and gorgeous greenery is another way I romanticize the ordinary.
Nature has a way of reminding me to slow down and appreciate God’s creation and the natural beauty surrounding us. When I walk outside and smell the fresh air, I immediately feel more creative and inspired.

I always take advantage of those comfortable fall Texas days because of the joy it brings me. So whether you’re strolling through a botanical garden, exploring a new neighborhood, finding somewhere captivating to spend an afternoon, roaming through a corn maze or sitting on your patio at home, sometimes the best plans are the ones that allow you to enjoy the outdoors.
The Joy of Holiday Inspiration
The Dallas Arboretum is a lovely addition to your seasonal plans if you’re looking for something to do in the DFW area. Between the Christmas Village, the decorated historic mansion.and the beauty of the botanical garden itself, there’s something for everyone. Go on a solo outing or visit with family and friends.
Although the arboretum will retire The 12 Days of Christmas display after this year, I’m excited to see what new experiences they plan to share in the future. My goal is to go back and experience the garden at night under the Christmas lights, I just know it’s even more magical.

Until then, may you find the merry and bright Christmas spirit during your outdoor experiences this holiday season. Get out there and explore, you never know what you might discover.
